High Court flays officials for digging up roads

March 16, 2014 by AmbitionIAS Leave a Comment

  • Madras High Court Bench discussed their thoughts during hearing of a general PIL petition associated to digging of roads.
  • Agreed with the petitioner’s counsel that many roads had been dug, relaid and dug up once more either to :
    • Lay drinking water pipelines,
    • Create underground sewage facility,
    • Fix optic fibre cables or for some other work.
  • Reasons for the above duplication of work:
    • Officials of different divisions and their contractors not working in unison,
    • Contracts provided to various contractors, and every contractor is expected to finish work assigned without moving the fault on the other contractor.

Exams Perspective:

  1. Inter-Departmental co-ordination
  2. Policy Implementation
