HEALTH – Insurance for all Top Priority for Ministry

  • Healthcare has been one of the priority areas for the Narendra Modi government
  • In the past few months the sector saw quite a few initiatives.
  • Starting from policy changes against tobacco use to increased access to healthcare in rural areas as well as promotion of traditional medicine systems such as ayurveda.
  • A lot still remains in the pipeline and with the department getting J P Nadda as the new health minister.
  • It must take proactive measures to meet the government's agenda for the sector.
  • The health ministry's top priority is to launch the much-hyped National Health Assurance Plan, which is aimed at providing insurance cover to all, similar to Obamacare.
  • The ambitious proposal, which was also part of BJP's election manifesto, has been on the government's priority list from the very beginning and is expected to be launched by the end of this year.
