Greening Barren Land in Bondel

  • 70-year-old Krishnappa P., a retired employee of Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited, water saplings of jackfruit and other plants what was once a totally barren government land in Bondel.
  • While Bondel may emerge as a hub of activity with the government intending to come up with the District Ranga Mandira and the KSCA planning a cricket stadium there, Mr. Krishnappa remains nonchalant and keeps watering the plants with help from his wife Radhamani and daughter-in-law Sindhu S. Kumar.
  • “We do not want any of these trees to be cut off (for the Ranga Mandira or the cricket stadium). These trees, which we are nursing since the last six years, can be translocated to other places as they are very useful,” says Mr. Krishnappa while foreseeing the possibility that the trees may be axed for the two structures.
