- Class VIII history text book of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has resulted in mixed reactions from scholars and historians for describing the action of armed struggle during Swadeshi Movement as “revolutionary terrorism”
- The armed struggle against British Empire in 1905 during bifurcation of Bengal has been phrased as “revolutionary terrorism” in the text book and the Chief Administrator has of WBBSE has refused to comment the issue
- A few authors have opined that this is totally wrong and a few historians do not mind the phrase “revolutionary terrorism”
- Proper phrase in this would be militant nationalism rather than revolutionary terrorism and pointed out that the in the 1900s there was discontent among freedom fighters with the Congress’ method of “appealing” to the British Government for more autonomy for the country
- British were the one who called our freedom fighters as terrorists and the phrase “revolutionary terrorism” was used in the Alipore Bomb Case Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki the freedom fighters attempted to kill Magistrate Kingsford known for his harsh verdicts on nationalists on April 30, 1908
- Ashok Mukherjee a noted author questioned “Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was involved in armed struggle against the British Government. Does that make him a terrorist?”
- Freedom fighters during the era of violent struggle against the partition of Bengal were influenced by Irish and Russian Nihilism and this is used for freedom fighters in Irish and eminent historian feels they were influenced by Irish people
