- Iraqi Kurdish Peshawarga forces, Syria and US have launched an offensive against the Islamic jihadists and have successfully reclaimed the Mosul Dam, Iraq’s largest, from the IS.
- The exit of the divisive premier Nouri al-Maliki also relieved the West which rushed supplies and aid to those displaced, besides strengthening Kurdish forces with arms.
- Syria’s air force carried raids on the jihadists stronghold city of Raqa in Syria and killed over 31 of them.
- US military backed by Sunni Arab tribal militia carried out air strikes and made advances over the provincial city of Ramadi, which has been captured by the IS.
- Brit PM has highlighted a robust stance to be adopted by the British lest the jihadists launch an attack on British soil soon.
