  • Home Ministry has received a letter from the the MP Bezbaruah Committee that had been set up to look into the problems faced by people from the Northeast.
  • The report is not revealed to the public but a major recommendation is to increase north eastern people in the police as the Delhi PolicNortheast will have a salutary effect on the force
  • Delhi Police strength is 84000, where as there are only 41 persons who are from the Northeast, also language problem can be eliminated if there are more people from Northeast region
  • Delhi Police recruits anyone throughout India but should speak Hindi, a recruitment test was conducted for below Assistant sub inspector rank that was conducted in Guwahati but publicity was poor for the test
  • After the assault happened on a girl from Arunachal Pradesh Mr.Hibu was appointed, he established a nodal cell and the 1093 helpline along with other officers from the region
  • Each state has a committee set up and their task was to ensure that police register complaints filed by people from Northeast and also sensitising the force
  • Officers from Notheast will not have communication gap and will increase interaction and awareness and they will be able to address the issues effectively
  • Activists opines there is a visible change in the attitude of the police and the nodal cell needs more teeth to ensure compliance with directives on inclusion and fair treatment
