- Russia celebrated the 69th anniversary of its victory in World War II with an impressive display of its 11000 plus strong military, and aircrafts.
- Following this, President Vladimir Putin then travelled to Crimea for the first time since its annexation and addressed the fleet housed at Sevastapol and the crowd which were chanting slogans welcoming him. He said that the referendum was an affirmation of Crimea’s loyalty to its ancestors and history.
- In Ukraine, the festivities were called off and the govt’s anti-terrorist operation continued, with increasing casualties being reported on both sides.
