FIFA agrees to wearing veils and turbans during football matches
- World Football governing body FIFA approved wearing veils and turbans for religious purposes during matches.
- FIFA said “it was decided that female and male players will be allowed to wear veils and turbans respectively.
- The move will allow many Muslim female players and Sikh male players to play in the games without any restriction except the colour of the veil or turban should be as that of a jersey.
- Earlier there were concerns that allowing veils in the name of hijab would cause head and neck injuries to players.
- Veils were allowed on trial basis from 2012.
