DoPT Rule for Age and 2 Additional Attempts Increase for UPSC

February 23, 2014 by AmbitionIAS 46 Comments

Recently DoPT released a statement about two additional attempts for UPSC Civil Services candidates. There is no clarity on who the beneficiaries are, and for how long this order is valid.

The order says,

  1. “Two additional attempts to all categories of candidates w.e.f. Civil Services Examination 2014 with effect from 2014…“Does this mean, guys who have exhausted all their attempts are the beneficiaries, or even a guy who is yet to start writing Civil Services Exam is benefited ? In the latter case, will a General candidate have 6 attempts, OBC candidate have 9 attempts, and SC / ST candidate.
  2. “…with consequential age relaxation of maximum age for all categories of candidates, if required.?“There is no clarity on what ‘Consequential age relaxation mean?’Let us take the case of a General candidate who is 28, and has given 2 attempts. The question here is, will this candidate have 4 more attempts or just 2 more ?What is the upper limit for age relaxation ? Can a General Candidate who is 33 or an OBC candidate who is 35+ or a SC / ST candidate who is 37-38+ take up these exams ?

The government has to throw more light on this circular. It will certainly help the real beneficiaries to begin with their preparation. Probably one may have to wait for the CSP 2014 notification for further clarification.

I’ll update as I get more clarity on this matter. If any of you guys get more information, please do leave a message.
