Despite Bad Weather, Record Foodgrain Output Likely

  • Food grain production in India for 2013-2014 to touch a record 264.38 million tonnes as against 257.13 million tonnes in 2012-2013
  • Earlier, lower food grain output predicted due to bad weather that hit the crop, improved output likely to diffuse bad impact of a poor monsoon this year
  • Wheat at 106.29 million tonnes, rice at 106.26 million tonnes register improved outputs over previous years
  • Similar record breaking performance predicted by Agriculture Ministry for output of pulses and coarse cereals, at 19.57 and 42.6 million tonnes respectively
