- Frustrated with the developers threatening to destroy their lands and the inaction of the govt on their petitions against these developers,3 farmers set up their own bogus govt office.
- The farmers carefully studied land policies and law, examined official documents, and using copied official seals started issuing govt documents which prevented local developers from forcefully acquiring the village lands.
- Remarkably this went on for a year, with civil service aspirants even responding to job advertisements put up by this office, before being discovered by local CPC cadres who then shut it down.
- The farmers, who are hailed as heroes by the villagers, now face 3yrs of jail charged with fabricating official documents and impersonating public officers.
- It clearly displays the desperation of people in their battle to hold on to their land, or at least receive an appropriate compensation against powerful developers suspected to be hand-in-glove with the government.
