- The North Delhi Municipal Corporation’s set up The Mahila Haat, in a prime location with metro connectivity, to empower women entrepreneurs by providing cheap retail spaces.
- Unfortunately, the Haat is considered a failure for the following reasons:
- While it is registered that 20 of the 55 stalls had been located, only 10 stalls are currently occupied. This was despite all 55 Haats being occupied in the first 4 months.
- It is impossible to locate as it is unmarked and also surrounded by dhabas and other shops that dissuade potential customers from entering in.
- The employees and patrons of the dhabas also pass comments and harass the women entering the Haat.
- The design provides no protection from sun, rain or cold, has no proper toilets or lights and is extremely unhygienic.
