- In a survey conducted by body Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) it has emerged that 69% of the 3,800 respondents of age group 18-55 have planned their vacations keeping in mind the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on April 10.
- Affirming the same, Delhi tour operators reported a drop in business during the election weekend. It is likely that the voter turnout this Lok Sabha elections will exceed the Assembly polls last year.
- ASSOCHAM said that the highest excitement is among first time voters and the younger generation fuelled by the changing belief that govt can make a difference and produce significant results.
- Findings:
- For 78% of the respondents, corruption, increasing prices and women safety are the top concerns besides declining economy and rising unemployment.
- 67% ruled out influence of celebrities in voting preferences.
- 7 out of 10 believed that political engagement will effectively solve the nation’s problem.
- People want the focus to shift to quality of life and opportunities.
