- Gujrat’s lifeline river Narmada will not hinder the refilling of the Sabarmati river by increasing the level of the dam
- This step to increase dam level is well planned and works as a model for river rejuvenation
- As per the irrigational needs the Sabarmati receives about 500 to 1,500 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of the Narmada water for riverfront project
- South Asian Network of Dams, Rivers and People said in the upstream Sabarmati is dry and it is Narmada who is replenishing it
- There is no sufficient water in narmada, water should also remain for drought-prone Kutch and Saurashtra regions
- Sabarmati a non perennial rever cannot serve the purpose to rejuvenate rather the river depends upon rain wate, the riverbed is shrunk by 50 meters and rather has become a nullah
- Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) the river project was planned to deal with floods as hydraulic studies were conducted before project implementation and flood protection walls built along the river.
- The project is to bring back the people to the river and the cooperation has rehabilitated 11,000 people displaced by the project
- Activists have raised issue of water being polluted but the Gujarat government is taking measures to keep the water pollution free.
