21st of every month as Yoga Day in Maharashtra

  • Maharashtra government has decided to celebrate the 21st day of every month as Yoga Dayacross all schools, colleges and universities in the State.

Thailand becomes first Asian country to eliminate mother to child HIV

  • Thailand hasbecome the first Asian country to eliminate mother-to-child HIV transmission to ensure an AIDS-free generation. 
  • report also says Belarus and Armenia werealso stated free of mother-to-baby HIV transmissions
  • Both countries have a much lower dominance of the virus.
  • Cuba was the only other countryand the first country to eliminate this epidemic under the WHO’s criteria in 2015.


India becomes third largest oil consumer

  • Indiahas exceeded Japan to become the world’s third-largest oil consumer, with its oil demand galloping 1 % in 2015.
  • India with demand of 4.1 million barrels a day becomes the third-largest consumer behind the U.S. (19.39 million bpd) and China (11.96 million bpd).
  • India accounted for 4.5 per cent of world oil consumption in 2015.
