Countries Reaffirm Relevance Of Panchsheel Treaty

June 29, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • The 60th commemoration of the Panchsheel treaty held at Beijing was attended by China’s President Xi Jinping, Vice-President Hamid Ansari , President of Myanmar Thein Sein.
  • The 3 countries reiterated their commitment to the Panchsheel treaty and said:
    • Territorial integrity and sovereignty, mutual non-aggression and non-interference in internal matters, and peaceful co-existence – the basics of the Panchsheel treaty are relevant and have matured into integral part of foreign policy.
    • China, India and Myanmar should follow these principles and also work with the West to uphold world peace and stability.
    • Jungle Rule, where one country in the world bullies the other and tries to dictate its foreign policy should not exist.
    • South-south co-operation should strengthen, and North-South dialogue should improve.
    • Greater interaction between people of China and India in all fields to improve bilateral ties.
    • Panchsheel is the basis for a globalized world which will be a federation of friendly independent nations.
    • A new paradigm for global action is necessary and Panchasheel could catalyse the efforts and enhance mutual understanding, share developmental experiences and tackle trans-national threats more effectively.
    • It is the way for realization of common goals of prosperity for all 3 countries.
  • Myanmar also acknowledged the active role played by China in its economic development.
