- President Obama spoke about the Chinese govt’s crackdown at the Tiananmen Square 25 yrs ago saying that it was an act of crushing democracy and urged every generation to renew the blessings of liberty.
- The White House, while acknowledging China’s growth and progress insisted that despite cordial bi-lateral relations the US will be clear on the differences between them and said that China must guarantee the rights and freedom of its citizens.
- Beijing criticized the US for its utter disregard for facts and for interfering in China’s internal affairs under the guise of human rights. It lodged solemn representations over the statements and urged the US to drop political bias.
