Britain Votes For EU Parliament

May 23, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • In the elections to European Parliament and local councils, any Commonwealth citizen deemed to have a stake in the country’s future, irrespective of whether or not they are citizens or permanent residents, can participate.
  • This is a way of strengthening assimilation and may well explain the success of the British multiculturalism.
  • 46 million people were eligible to vote for candidates to 73 seats in this election which recorder a turnout of around 40%.
  • In the last elections held, in 2009, Conservatives enjoyed the majority followed by the anti-EU United Kingdom Independent Party (UKIP), the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats.
  • The European Parliament election results will be declared after completion of elections in all the 28 member states.
