July 29, 2014 by Admin Leave a Comment

  • Sri Lankan Tamil refugees will receive biometric cards from the state government to rule out any type of cash disbursal irregularities
  • Revenue inspectors sometimes may not be able to pay cash to all the refugees at a time and there are chances of impersonation and sometimes cash may not reach the intended beneficiaries
  • By this new system every adult will have a biometric card and will also have a no-frills account in Indian Overseas Bank for fool proof cash delivery and transaction
  • The money will be deposited to the bank directly and he/she will be given a biometric card by capturing the fingerprints, IOB representatives will take fingerprints using hand-held machines and post verification the cash will be disbursed
  • For children below 18 years the account will be linked to those of their mothers, this order was issued by the Public Department
  • This kind of working system was first implement in Namakkal district two years ago and they have been getting payment through this system, government wanted to adapt this initiative
  • IOB has been serving around 70% of the camps; the accounts will be opened in the nearby branches of IOB
  • Remaining places leading bank of the district will be in-charge for making payments
  • 10 refugee camps will avail this service as an experiment and will start operating in all the camps post October
