- Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has directed its engineers to clear all of its poles of Optical fibre cables (OFCs).
- It has cited operational, commercial and safety issues’, a Lokayukta order and a standing order issued by the Karnataka Electricity Commission on the direction of the court following an accident involving a child a few years ago.
- Cable operators are threatening a protest and are citing the right of way assured to them by the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Amendment Act, 2011.
- According to an arrangement made 5 yrs ago Multi System Operators (MSOs) would pay about Rs. 8,000 per kilometre to Bescom. But Bescom suddenly stopped accepting payments.
- Their business infrastructure depends on these poles and are urging for this to be legalized and charged per pole.
