Art Work found in Tamil Nadu Belongs to Iron Age

  • Sketches on rock dating back to pre-historic time depicting human figures, humped bulls, deer, jungle fowl and celebrations were discovered in 2 rock shelters in Tamil Nadu
  • First set of work dates to Iron age, circa 1500 BC-500 BC, and second to 5th to 3 century BC or early historic age, found spread across a small portion of hill in Western Ghats
  • Research scholar P Balamurugan found these pre historic rock paintings in rock shelters on right back of river Vaigai adjacent to village Arugaveli village in Theni district
  • In Tamil the rock shelters are known as ‘Chitrakalpudavu’. There are over 120 such places where one can see rock paintings by pre-historic men
