- The ambitious Indian regional civil aircraft plane programme has eight international manufacturers have responded
- The military aircraft producer will now upgrade the search (technically called an RFI or request for information) with a request for proposal (RFP) for the engine.
- The proposed HAL-NAL joint company has received all in-principle approvals
- National Aerospace Labs under the CSIR will jointly nurture and see the 70-or-90-seater passenger plane project through.
- HAL’s Aero Engine Research and Design Centre put out the RFI in December last year seeking cost and technical details of a fuel-frugal integrated propulsion system;
- the engine would power what is to be an Indian twin-engine regional plane
- Once the engine is suited for the Indian capabilities then the work will start immediately
- The defence public enterprise hosted a brainstorming session with over 100 potential industrial suppliers to the civil programme and soon will be a reality by 2020-22
