Age-Wise Rating Must for Films with Tobacco Images

  • The WHO has urged all countries including India to introduce age-wise rating for films and TV programmes with tobacco imagery.
  • The emphasis has been made to restrict the number of adolescent smokers.
  • Studies by the US National Cancer Institute have concluded that smoking in films would lead to 37% or six million new young smokers.
  • The study also concluded that two million new smokers would die of tobacco-induced illnesses.
