- Mercy Petition of 18 prisoners who were on death row was rejected by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, in 2013.
- In 2013, Afzal Guru’s execution was the only one execution which took place.
- According to Amnesty, there was no fairness in Afzal Guru’s trial, because:
- He was not provided lawyer of his choice,
- The lawyer at the trial stage did not have adequate experience,
- When he was executed, his family was not informed on time,
- His body was not handed over to his family
- There is an increase in % of death rows worldwide, with Iran leading the pack.
- China’s data is not available, as they refused to provide it in 2009, and since then Amnesty has not included them in the reports. However, Amnesty speculates that China has single largest number of executions under its belt.
