  • The world’s first quantum computing machine is 24,000 times faster than its international counterparts.
  • Researchers believe that quantum computers in some ways may dwarf the processing powers of current day supercomputers.

  • Mallikarjun Kharge is appointed as the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Parliament.
  • The PAC’s main function is to examine the audit report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) after it is laid in the Parliament.

Braj Bihari Kumar to succeed economist S K Thorat as chairman of ICSSR 

  • Braj Bihari Kumar has been appointed as the chairman of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). He succeeded economist S K Thorat.
  • He has been serving as the editor of the two quarterly journals, published by a society called Astha Bharati.
  • He is a founding member of a society called Astha Bharati.

German painter AR Penck dies at 77

  • His works features primitive depictions of people and animals and recognized as an important example of the new figurative style in Europe.
  • It cited the Michael Werner Gallery, which first exhibited his work in the late 1960s

Indian Army successfully test-fires advanced Block-III version of Brahmos cruise missile

  • Indian Army successfully test-fired Block III version(an advanced version) of the Brahmos land-attack cruise missile in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
  • Earlier, in April 2017, the Indian Navy had successfully conducted its first test-firing of the sea-to-land attack version of its advanced supersonic cruise missile Brahmos.
  • Brahmos missile is developed by a joint-venture between India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)and Russia’s Mashinostroyenia.

Madhya Pradesh Assembly declares Narmada living entity

  • It provides all legal rights of a person or a living entity to ensure “conservation of aquatic bio-diversity linked with the purity and continual flow of the river”.
  • Madhya Pradesh government would bring a bill in the state assembly in order to give a living entity status to river Narmada.

Andhra Pradesh’s Banganapalle mango gets GI tag

  • Andhra Pradesh’s Banganapalle mango got Geographical Indication registration from the Geographical Indications Registry.
  • A GI tag certifies the origin of a product or produce from a particular region as the quality or other feature of the product is marked only to the place of its origin.

Archaeologists discover 4000-year-old model garden outside Egypt tomb

  • A group of archaeologists discovered the remains of a nearly 4000 year old model garden outside a tomb in the ancient Egyptian capital of Thebes known as
  • It is divided into equal square plots, each about 30 centimeters across.
  • The garden was discovered during excavations in an open courtyard outside a Middle Kingdom tomb.
  • A small mud-brick temple attached to the tomb containing three stone slabs was also discovered.
  • Two elevated spots were found in the middle of the garden, which were probably used for planting trees.

70 million year old Dinosaur egg fossils discovered in China

  • The shells, discovered near Foshan in the southeast part China, were found at a depth of about eight metres, preserved in red sandstone.
  • China Scientists have founded five eggs: three were destroyed, but they are still visible.
  • The eggs were round in shape, belonging to phytophagous dinosaurs

ICC T20 rankings: India drop to No. 4 in ICC T20 rankings

  • Indiahas dropped two places to slip to fourth position.
  • With 118 points India is behind Pakistan (121 points), England (121 points), and New Zealand (125 points).
  • Australia and the next nine highest-ranked sides on the T20I Team Rankings will qualify automatically for the 2020 ICC World Twenty20 Tournament, which will be hosted by Australia.
  • The bottom eight teams on the rankings will get a second chance to qualify for the 7thof the tournament when they will join the regional qualifiers in the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2019.

Soumyajit Ghosh wins singles & doubles gold at Chile Open

  • Indian table tennis player Soumyajit Ghoshhas bagged both the singles and doubles gold at the Seamaster 2017 ITTF Challenge Chile Open in Santiago, Chile.
  • Soumyajit became the third Indian to win a men’s singles title at an ITTF Challenge Series or ITTF World Tour tournament.
